Onlyfans. The idea of it brings up the notion of sex work, while onlyfans is used for more than that. Its mostly known for that unfortunatly. The same for patreon.
During the pandemic most sex workers went to these platforms to have a kind of income and continue using it to expand on their work. In fact, that platform made sure that sex workers were more in control on their content and how much they made.
While one can still consider it that people are being exploited like that, its not that simple.
We sell our strength when we go to work to make money. They sell something else. If its their choice, than so much the better. There is a kind of taboo on that kind of work, but not for me. A woman who does that kind of work is no worse than any other woman. These women and men all do it for their own reasons. They have dreams, desires, wishes, hobbies, just like anyone else. Even though we have evolved as a society, talking about sex is still a taboo.
Sexual education for teenagers is taboo. Especially in the USA. While a good sexual education can prevent outbreaks of soa’s among teenagers.
On social media you quickly see the double standard. Men showing their naked upper bodies. No problem. They can still be body shamed if they aren’t fit or muscular. But for women. Its different. Showing cleavage, not showing cleavage, dressing moderately or not. They will receive criticism. No matter what they do. Women who promote their onlyfans on sociale media face backlash and sometimes their accounts get suspended by people who report their accounts out of jealousy.
Not to mention, that these women get more than their share of DM”s from men with dickpics or whatnot. Its like they think because they do those things and get paid for it, that they want to receive those kind of messages? I had one guy stating that if you know who to send it to, that you can achieve succes. While that has some truth to it, depending on context.
One should know that people don’t like receiving those kind of messages. In certain situations it can be done, but you have to know that the woman is open to it, to these kind of messages before sending it.
This is also one of the reasons why sex workers rarely answers DM’s but rather only on onlyfans. They know that they will get messages from men looking for a hookup, free content or a relationship. Not just that. They also receive threats, insults on daily basis because it. They receive insults when not complying with these men. No matter what they do, they receive backlash.
I’m for women’s right no matter their class or what they do. So long as the women aren’t forced into doing things that they don’t want to do.I will support women in this. You don’t have to like it. It’s their choice in the end.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not putting anyone on a pedestal here. That is not what I’m doing here.
Last weekend a woman on twitter called orvaline was harassed by conservative twitter for posting a photo. A newspaper picked it up and ran with it in the most misogynistic way possible: body shaming her. Another magazine also ran with it and did it more respectively than the news paper did. Still, the woman in question was not heard in this debate. She was being talked about without hearing her side of it. That is the biggest problem. Ironically I’m also doing it here. I’m talking about women without hearing their side. I don’t mind if women who are on onlyfans open up to me about their experiences. I’m open to it and will listen to them if they want to do that. It’s ok if they don’t want to do it. I suppose it’s not easy talking about it.
What it is really about: control. They want to control women’s actions. Do this, do that. Sleep with many men: she will be condemned for it. I do not. Not all men condemn women for it. To this day, women still get criticized for what they are wearing and what they are doing. We have evolved but in that field, some men are still stuck in the 50’s it seems. Because society has shifted towards gender equality and giving women the right to do what they want, a anti-feminism movement has sprung op called Men Going Their Own Way, short MGTOW and most of them are a bunch of incels who can’t deal with the fact that women have rights, desires and dreams.
These men want to sleep with so many women as possible and still condemn them for doing it with other men. They really don’t see the hypocrisy in that, do they?
In the end, its all about control. They want to own and control women. When they can’t do that, they lash out at them. Personally I have no problem with women doing their won thing on patreon, onlyfans or whatnot. So long as they do it with consent and do it safely, I don’t mind. I’m not on onlyfans. I did try it once to see what it is about, but its not my cup of tea. I don’t condemn those who do it. We live in a free world and everyone is free to do what they want. So long as they respect each other.
